Sheffield has one of the largest population concentrations of 18-24 year olds – thanks to the two thriving universities in the city.
More than 12,000 graduates leave Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield every year, gaining qualifications in thousands of academic and business-led subjects.
University guides consistently confirm the two universities as some of the UK's leading universities. The Virgin 2007 Alternative Guide to British Universities, for instance, says that “the University of Sheffield is a top university across the board”.
The same university has more than 24,000 students from 118 countries, and almost 6000 staff, while Sheffield Hallam has 28,000 students with a significant number of international students – lending a real cosmopolitan atmosphere within Sheffield.
